2020 D1 College Basketball champion

You just know that sport writers are happy that San Diego State lost.
Coaches and Associated Press topped ranked team at the end of the season. No tournament this year, which means that Kansas is the De Facto National Champions.

How to expand the college footbal playoff to ten teams.

Only slightly worse than the current system
In a past post, I suggested that the NCAA should expand the college football playoff to eight teams with the power five champions each getting a bid, the best group of five champion getting a bid with two wildcards. I think that my earlier idea would be a good idea, if the NCAA acutally had enough power and guts to try it but it likely will not happen. Truth be told, I don't want it to happen. The reason why I oppose it is because it is another stopgap. It appeases the power conferences who are the problem. So I have decided to share a true plan to fix the playoff.

The NCAA FBS pecking order

It is that time of year. A time when people choose with teams who will have a chance to become FBS National Champion. The current playoff system started in 2014. It replaced the BCS. Teams are decided by people based on many factors, records, schedule and conferences. Today I am writing about the conferences. This post will reveal the current FBS conference pecking order.

This is a important factor in determining if your team even has a chance. The fact is that their are certain teams who will never have a chance. Those teams could go undefeated and they would not get in. Now the order

What should the NCAA do?

BCS Picks plus one

I have been busy. I had planned to post a full list of bowl game predictions but I lost track of time and missed the first bowl game. I then decided just to do the BCS. Here I go

Liberty Bowl

Mississippi State over Rice

BCS Bowls
Rose Bowl

Michigan State over Stanford

Fiesta Bowl

Baylor over Central Florida

Sugar Bowl

Alabama over Oklahoma

Orange Bowl

Ohio State over Clemson

Title Game

Auburn over Florida State

Note 1: I being a Memphian am also picking the Liberty Bowl eventhough it is a non BCS game.
Note 2: The winner of the BCS title game will be declared the MSF National Champion.

USC coaching changes

Lane Kiffin has lost his job. Kiffin went 28-15 as USC head coach. Kiffin is now looking for a new job. Vol fans, who are still mad that Kiffin left after one 7-6 season, are smiling, at least when they are not thinking about the Dooley years. Now in memory of Kiffin, a song.

Wait, the season is not over who will coach the Trojans now?

Answer, new USC interim head coach Ed Orgeron, who was 10-21 in three years as Ole Miss head coach.

Oh how USC has fallen, hopefully they can get their act together, but with Coach O in charge, I doubt it.

My Thoughts about Delany's NCAA Reform Plan

Above is a plan by Jim Delany to reform the NCAA it calls for:
  • Creation of a Educational Trust, that allows former student-athletes to return to school after their playing careers are over.
  • Time commitments, to allow student-athletes to be "full time students"
  • Focusing on at risk student-athletes,
  • Miscellaneous expenses, paying the student-athletes.

I won!

I am posting this to inform the public of my victory in my Fox Sport Bracket. I won nothing EXCEPT BRAGGING RIGHTS!! WOOOHHH It should be noted that while my bracket for the MSF Challenge won, my other brackets had problems. My other Fox Bracket finished 50th. My two CBS Brackets finished 330666 & 546523. But I won my contest & that matters.

Deep hurting

Both Miami & Indiana lost last night. It is official, my brackets have been busted. I am getting crushed in every bracket challenge that I have entered, except my own. I am winning the MSF Bragging Rights Challenge.

Sorry about that.

Bracket update,

This is pretty much how me & most of the other people who made NCAA brackets feel. Granted I am not declaring a day of mourning like last year, but it's still bad.

Laying down the gauntlet

For a few years I have blogged, tweeted & posted Youtube vidoes. Partly for fun & partly to show how smart I am. Now today I have decided to prove how smart I am by creating a MSF (Memphis Sports Fan) Bragging Rights Challenge group as part of the Fox Bracket Challenge. The prize for winning the Fox Sports Bracket is this

I am trying to win this. The thing is people not only can enter the main challenge they can also join groups, public or private. Some of this groups offer prizes, a few years ago Chris Vernon then of 730 Fox Sports had a contest. I entered it & thats why I even have a foxsports account. Last year, I had a group but didn't tell anybody, people found it & joined it anyway. This year I am telling people. If you dare to challenge me, have or get a Fox Sport account, enter their bracket challenge & join 'MSF BRAGGING RIGHTS CONTEST' group. It is public, & people can post two brackets. So if you aren't sure about picks just post different picks on each bracket. Why am I doing this, because the only way to prove that I am smart is to outsmart other people. You might be asking "What do I get if I beat you?", the answer is,

You get nothing, except Bragging Rights & the fact that you crushed my dreams of greatness. But that won't happen because I shall will! Now those of you who want a thrashing, enter & be crushed. Those of you who are smart & know that I shall win, seat back & watch me go "Veni Vidi Vici".

03-16-2012

Today is the day that the Memphis Tigers played & won their final basketball C-USA game. That is a good thing, C-USA has been a joke for a few years now. Memphis has been trying to get out of it and move to the Big East. That seemed to happened last summer, but nope, today is also the final basketball game of the 'old' Big East. It will be replaced with a 'new' Big East who will have first rights to play their tourney in MSG. This means that Memphis is going to join a unnamed conference which I have nicknamed the 'Not Big East' Conference. This assumes that the 'Not Big East' doesn't fall apart first, which it still could.

Why is this happening, money or football TV money. It seems strange to me, a basketball fan, that the quest  for more football money can just destroy tradition, when we all know that tradition is why FBS doesn't have a playoff, but it can. I am an Memphis football fan, I hear how football is so important and that basketball doesn't really matter. I hope that this people are right. Conferences hurt & changed rivalries ended all for money, I hope that it is worth it. Because if they are wrong and it is not worth it, there will be no place in this nation that those people will go and not have to deal with the effects of the their mistake.

MVP
In happier news, Congrats to Chris Crawford C-USA tourney MVP.

Congratulations 16-0 Memphis

The Memphis Tigers went 16-0 this year. This is the first time Memphis has gone unbeaten in CUSA since Cal left. It was a team effort with several players stepping up.

Joe Jackson Player of the year, all CUSA 1st team. The best player on the team. Leader in points, minutes assist, & 3P%
Adonis Thomas, All CUSA 3rd team. 2nd in points, & minutes.
Geron Johnson All CUSA 3rd team. Leader is steals, 2nd in assists
DJ Stephens All CUSA 3rd team, Defensive player of the year, CUSA defensive team. The spark of the bench. A senior that has stepped up & become something nobody expected. Leader in Boards, Blocks & FG%
Chris Crawford All CUSA 6th man of the year. Threat off the bench. Leader in FT%, 3rd in assists.
Shaq Goodwin CUSA Freshmen team. 2nd in blocks
Josh Pastner Coach of the year

Now on to Tulsa & the CUSA tourney.

Super Conferences lineup predictions.

Cooler than the Tardis, Deloren and Bill & Ted's phone booth put together.

Ever since conference realignment begin a few years ago there has been talk of super conferences. A super conference is a conference with several members like the old WAC did before the Mountain West split off. Except they would be the major conferences & would control major college football. All the other football conference would be left out. Well using the MSF prediction machine shown at the top, I have come up with the future look of the Football Bowl Subdivision conferences. Time to go to the future and back.

In my Opinion: Memphis Football

It is time for the University of Memphis to drop football from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) to the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). I hate the idea of doing it but it is necessary. Memphis is a basketball city, & the university is a basketball school. Tiger fans have not focused on football & truth be told we don't care about it. We want to be in the Final Four, not a BCS game. Yes, football can make a lot more money than basketball, however it is basketball that makes the money at the U of M.
