The NCAA FBS pecking order

It is that time of year. A time when people choose with teams who will have a chance to become FBS National Champion. The current playoff system started in 2014. It replaced the BCS. Teams are decided by people based on many factors, records, schedule and conferences. Today I am writing about the conferences. This post will reveal the current FBS conference pecking order.

This is a important factor in determining if your team even has a chance. The fact is that their are certain teams who will never have a chance. Those teams could go undefeated and they would not get in. Now the order

Tier 1 conference champions are always in the playoff

  1. SEC, the strongest conference in football, 5 playoff appearances, 4 title games appearances (one year was SEC vs SEC), 2 titles both Alabama.
  2. ACC, southern football reigns, 4 playoff appearances, 2 title game appearances, one title Clemson.
Tier 2 conference champion is in playoff if one or less loss & not only a co-champion

  1. Big Ten, only other conference to win title, 3 playoff appearances, 1 title game appearance, 1 title OSU.
  2. PAC-12,  only other conference to have a title game appearance, 2 playoff appearances, 1 title game appearance
  3. Big 12, last conference to have a playoff appearance, 2 playoff appearances,
Tier 3 conference champion may make playoff with a lot of help. None have made the playoff

  1. Norte Dame, independents will likely be in tier 2 next year, unless they miss playoffs somehow. Update: Norte Dame is in the playoff, it and independents are now Tier 2.
  2. AAC, UCF has a winning streak could maybe make it if insanity happens.
  3. Mountain West, no chance this year however Boise State, Hawaii and Utah State are in conference so they may have a chance in the future.
Tier 4 conference champions will never make the playoff, nothing to say about them because they are not a factor in the national championship debate.

  1. Conference USA
  2. Mid American
  3. Sun Belt

Dead Blog posts, Big 12 is in trouble. Suggestion time.

The Big 12 is dying, again. This time Texas and Oklahoma are leaving to go to the SEC.
