University of Memphis is now in the BIG EAST. The BIG EAST is a BCS conference. The BCS is big time. So Memphis is now big time. While this is great there are some things that I have been wanting to say about CUSA & I guess this is the time to say them. While I have doubts about the BIG EAST. I are glad that Memphis will soon be done with CUSA.
CUSA was formed when the Metro & Great Midwest merged. It should be noted that Virginia Tech & VCU were both part of the old Metro & were left out. While it was formed so it schools could be in a conference that played football, the old CUSA became a Basketball power. Things were good until 2005, when major conference realignment happened. Five schools including Louisville & Cincinnati both basketball rivals of Memphis left for the BIG EAST. Memphis was left in a weaken CUSA. At the same time CUSA sighed a TV deal which made it harder for Memphis fans to watch the Tigers. So while Memphis was making its tournament runs, during those regular seasons, Memphis fans were trying to find out if their games were on & if they were on was the channel carried on their cable or satellite system. Many times it was not. This during a time that Memphis basketball coaches & fans were running around trying to tell people that CUSA is a tough conference. With CUSA changing the schedule by adding conference games in order to make the other schools' strength of schedule better at Memphis' expense. Memphis basketball was likely the best thing CUSA had & they got everything the could out of it. Then they complained about the CUSA men's basketball tournament being at Memphis' FedEx Forum every year. FedEx Forum is the only NBA type area in CUSA & yet the tournament was moved for 2 years, it is back this season. So BYE BYE CUSA!!! WE ARE BIG TIME NOW!!
