Two weeks ago this Sunday, the John Laurinaitis as GM storyline ended at the WWE No Way Out PPV. This happened after John Cena defeated the Big Show. After the match Vince McMahon fired Laurinaitis, & then Cena gave him a AA. The next night on Raw He then got 3 AAs & was pinned by Cena, after both Big Show & David Ortunga abandoned him. Thus ending the reign of Laurinaitis who was also known as Johnny Ace, Big Johnny, & Road Warrior Animal's younger brother. I am going to take a look back at the Big Johnny Era.
It all started with CM Punk's worked shoot.on June 27, 2011. Punk mentioned & insulted Laurinaitis, a few weeks later Laurinaitis showed up at the Money in the Bank PPV. There under Vince's orders he tried to cheat Punk. When first we saw this, we all thought "oh Vince has a new stooge for TV". We were all wrong. The next night on Raw, HHH removed Vince from power & the rise of Big Johnny began. But we didn't notice, why because the new champion CM Punk was feuding with Cena. The Del Rio cashed in the MiB shot & won the WWE title with help from Kevin Nash. Nash claimed that HHH texted him to take out Punk. HHH denied this.HHH's time as COO was short. Things fell apart, HHH lost control of WWE. while this happened Laurinaitis was working to gain power. By this time we all knew, but in true wrestling storyline manner the good guys only seemed to a small clue as to what was happening. The bad guys all lined up behind Laurinaitis saying that he should be in charge. HHH was removed from power after the WWE roster & crew walked out on him. Big Johnny was now in charge.
He then began feuding with Punk. This went on for a few months, I got bored. Laurinaitis is boring, his voice is boring, he even dresses in a boring way. His motto People Power was boring.He made David Ortunga his sidekick, he was boring. Then Big Johnny made a mistake, he made himself a ref for Punk's title defense against Dolph Ziggler at the Royal Rumble. The WWE board of directors had had enough. HHH was gone to come & review Laurinaitis' job performance on the Raw after the Rumble. Big Johnny was toast he had tried for months to cheat Punk out of the title. Even though he called Punk v Ziggler down the middle, his past actions meant HHH was going to fire him. Right before the boring storyline ended, it happened. The Undertaker returned & saved Laurinaitis. Ok, no Undertaker returned to challenge HHH. And HHH forgot about Laurinaitis, but the Big Johnny Era continued. While many of us fans saw this fakeout coming it was still annoying. Next came the feud with Teddy Long. The feud began during a week when each was given control of the other GM's show. Laurinaitis lost a match to Long. The feud was settled at Wrestlemania. Winner gets control of both shows. I expected Long to win, a lot of people expect Long to win. The Big Johnny Era needed to ended. We were wrong. Team Raw won & Big Johnny & People Power now ran WWE. Just when we thought it was gone it won.
With his new power he bought back Brock Lesnar to be the face of the WWE giving into insane demands. He made Eve Torres an assistant, she was not boring, at least not before she started to work for him. Lesnar went after Cena. At Extreme Rules, Cena beats Lesnar, then things got interesting, Brock Lesnar got into it with HHH & walked out after attacking HHH. Cena later called out Laurinaitis for bringing in Lesnar for the purpose of take Cena out. Laurinaitis snapped & he along with Albert attacked Cena. He then announced that he would face Cena at Over the Limit. WWE had got good. He then fired the Big Show for mocking his voice. Then the WWE board ruled that Laurinaitis vs Cena would be one on one & anybody who interfered would be fired. Big Johnny won, thanks to Big Show who got his job back, with a raise. Show then started to attack people because his contract made it almost impossible to fire him. Many of the heels attacked Cena just to show that they were loyal to Laurinaitis. Big Johnny was at an all time high. Big Show has going to face Cena at Now Way Out & destroy him. Then Vince returned & was ready to fire Laurinaitis, Big Show came out & knocked out Vince. But it was to late after Cena beat Show at No Way Out it was over.
But Laurinaitis had one more plan, before he was fired he booked himself, Big Show & Ortunga in a 3 on 1 match against Cena. As mentioned above that ended very badly thus ending the Big Johnny Era, While he was boring it was good for a while.
