Why the Lakers need to go after Dwight Howard.

I have to admit it. Andrew Bynum has played very well this season. I am glad that he is playing well, though it would have been nice if he was playing this before the last year of Dwight Howard's contract. Due to this I have been reading that some of my fellow Laker fans are saying that the Lakers need to keep Bynum & forget about Howard. That Bynum can & will be a superstar player. I strongly disagree with this and here is why.

First Andrew Bynum is injury prone. He played in all 82 regular season games in his second year. The most games he has played in any other regular season is 65 game in the 09-10 season. Bynum has had knee problems. During the 07-08 season he dislocated his left knee. In 08-09 he tore the MCL in his right knee. In the 2010 playoffs he hurt his knee. He helped the Lakers win the championship then had surgery. Missing the early part of the 10-11 season, and when he came back Coach Jackson limited his minutes.

Second is Andrew Bynum has had charactor issues. He loses control of his emotions. His rookie season, he elbowed Shaq in the chest. After he & Shaq had traded dunks over each other. In 08-09 he committed a flagrant foul on Gerard Wallace which fractured a rib and punctured a lung. After his injury in the 2010 playoff, Bynum first delayed the surgery in order to go to the Soccer World Cup he then waited until hours before training camp started to inform the Lakers that he would not be there. He later admitted that his doctor had told him that he would not be ready for training camp weeks earlier. Then there is his flagrant foul against Barea in last year's playoffs. Which embarrassed the team.

Third Stats, Bynum career stats are 10.5 pts 7.1 rbs & 1.5 bks in he regular season, 8.2 pts 5.9rbs & 1.2 bks in the playoffs. He has help the Lakers win championships but he is not a star. Howard by comparsion averages 18.2 pts 12.9 rbs 2.2 bks in the regular season. And 27 pts 15.5 rbs 1.8 bks in the playoffs.

Finally, it does not take six years for superstars to develop.  Even coming out of High School. Kobe & Lebron, we knew that they were great. Howard grab 10 rbs per in his rookie season. I am not saying that Bynum is a bad player. But Howard is better.
