Dear Dr. Buss:
I am a long time fan of your team and organization. I am writing to ask you to withdraw from the NBA. The reason I am asking you to do this is because of the latest NBA proposal from the owners to the players. This is a attempt to help small market teams while hurting large market teams. The rules that are designed to punish tax paying teams. As I am sure you know, you are usually a tax paying team. But it is not just the rules, its the concept behind them. The NBA small market owners want to level the playing field at your expense and that's not fair.
The Laker organization is older than the NBA. In fact it's arrival helped legitimize the NBA. George Mikan, a Laker star was the first NBA superstar. The Minneapolis Lakers were the league's first dynasty in the late 40s & early 50s. The organization then expanded the league's brand by moving LA. In the 60s the Lakers had a rivalry with the Boston Celtics which continues to this day. This rivalry was one of the main reasons why that the NBA became a major league. Laker excellence continues into the early 70s when the Lakers won there first title in LA. The Laker organization would then come back & dominate the 80s winning 5 titles & beating the Celtics 2 out of 3 time. The Lakers even won back to back titles in the 86-87 & 87-88 seasons. All while this happened the league grew & the many of the small market owners made money off what the Lakers did. Moving to the 00s and another Laker dynasty. The Lakers are 16 have NBA titles & 31 finals appearance, and yet the small marker owners whose teams only exist because what you & the other big market owners did, say that they want a level playing field. I say it is time for the Lakers & hopefully the other big market owners to leave. Why stay with in a league that bites the hand that fed them.
from Memphissportfan & a long time Laker fan.
