Congratulations Memphis Grizzlies
Unless you have been living under a rock in Russia, you know that the Memphis Grizzlies have won their second round series vs the OKC Thunder, 4 games to 1 game. They have advanced to the Western Conferences finals for the first time ever in their history. Who would have thought that getting rid of Rudy Gay would cause them to improve, besides me of course.

Yep I told you so! Some guy called Chris Vernon might have also said something like this. Anyway Congratulations are in order for the Grizzlies.
This is my 350 post so I should post something special. So I am posting something for the Rudy Gay fan club.... NAAAH!

Truths of Fandom (Good Team)
I was sick this weekend & was not able to watch Game 1 of Clippers vs Grizzlies. From what I have heard & seen, it was a very 4th quarter, again. The starters played badly & Coach Lionel Hollins once again made questionable coaching & personal decisions. This has lead my Griz fans to worry about the future. This worry & general lack of knowledge of what to do has lead me to make a post about Truth of Fandom for fans of good teams, truths after the cut.

Welcome Back Seattle.
It now seems clear that the Sacramento Kings are moving to Seattle. It is not known if they are becoming the Seattle Kings or the new Seattle Supersonics, but Seattle will be getting a new team. The Sonics moved to Oklahoma City in 2008, this is the 5th season since they moved. A lot has chanced since they have moved. This post will list several things that have changed since Seattle last had a NBA team.
- Lebron James no longer chokes, yeah I know shocking. Miami is the champion.
- Cleveland hates Lebron. And the Cavs are terrible.
- Lakers suck, I don't know how it happened but it happened. They have Steve Nash & Dwight Howard, yet they suck.
- Memphis Grizzlies, LA Clippers are good.
- Nets are back in
New York Cityuh, I mean Brooklyn. They are trying to complete with the Knicks head up. - New Orleans Pelicans
- The new team in Oklahoma City, was in the finals & have two great players. Durant & Westbrook
- Greg Oden was a bust.
- Stars named Kevin Love, Rajon Rondo, Derrick Rose have risen, Stars like Allen Iverson have retired.
- David Stern veto trades that he don't like.
- David Stern is also retiring, yeah thats awesome.
- The NBA Lockout happened and didn't fix anything.
- Phil Jackson is retired. Meaning other teams now have a chance

MSF talks Grizzlies Part 1:
Last night, the Grizzlies defeated the Chicago Bulls to win their 16th game of the season. The Griz are currently 16-6 & are in 4th place in the Western Conference standings. This is the best opening to a season in Griz history. That is why I have chosen to write this now. While things are going good. While I am not a Grizzlies fan, I am a native Memphian & like many other Memphians who root for different NBA teams, I still keep up with what the Griz are doing. I see major problems with the Griz, today I will write about one of them. I will also give my opinion of what should be done about it. Here is problem one: Rudy Gay. What do I mean when I say that Rudy Gay is a problem. Rudy Gay keeps trying to be the best player on the team, even though he is clearly the third best after Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol. Gay shoots a lot which limits the times the two big men can get the ball on offense. Two years ago, Zach & Marc lead the Griz to a game seven against the Thunder in the second round while Rudy was injured. Last year, the Griz lead by Rudy were eliminated in the first round in a game seven vs the Clippers. During that series when the Griz gave the ball to Marc & Zach, the Griz were clearly better than the Clippers. When they stopped giving the ball to the big men & let Rudy take over, they didn't play well. Zach is a former all-star, Marc was a all-star last year, Rudy has never been an all-star. This year both Marc & Zach have had periods of great play. It also seems, in my opinion that Rudy after seeing this, has decided that he is going to prove that he is the man. This is bad, what is worse is that Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins seems to be enabling it. I will write about my thoughts on Lionel Hollins in an later post. But what to do about Rudy Gay. I say Trade Him.
Why should the Griz trade Rudy? Reason 1, because he is overpaid. Yes, I know that Rudy didn't make them offer a max contract but it is still a bad deal. The Griz have three major contracts & only two of them belong to all-star level talent. Reason 2, he is having problems being the 3rd best player. Rudy's attempts to dominate the ball show that he is still trying to be the best player instead of becoming a role player. This is going to cause dysfunction & hurt the team. The Griz are trying to win now, they need to know their roles & anybody who doesn't want to play his role should be forced to do so or traded. Reason 3, Lionel Hollins will not force Rudy to play his role. So management has to force the issue by moving Rudy. Reason 4, Rudy's trade value is high. Rudy is very talented, teams know this. Several teams would like to have him, let them make offers before his values drop. This is something the Griz need to do now or else they will have to do it later.
This is my opinion, if you agree or if you disagree, please comment below.

Thank You Micheal Heisley
On October 25th the NBA board of governors approved the sale of the Memphis Grizzlies. It is now only a matter of time before Robert Pera is the now owner. With the ownership change now certain it is time to take a look back at the Michael Heisley era.
When Heisley first brought the Grizzlies they were losing money, being miss managed and in Vancouver. He tried to succeed in Vancouver but couldn't. Maybe it was the lack of support or it could have been the crime and bad music.
Michael Heisley needed to get the team out of that city. So he came to Memphis. Since then the Grizz have made 5 trips to the playoffs & have played in a game 7 in the 2nd round. They have had 3 all-stars, and are now a team people respect. There have been some problems, the Otis Thorpe trade cost the Grizz a chance at, getting either Melo, D. Wade or Chris Bosh. Pau Gasol demanded to be traded & went on to win 2 NBA titles with the Lakers. (Which was great for me except Grizz fans whined about it so much that they then had trouble realizing that Marc Gasol was awesome) Beside Pau, Shane Battier, J-Will, James Posley all went on to win titles with the Heat the very next season after they left. Then there was this
Yet Michael Heisley kept going and now he has sold the team for a profit and the team is better than ever. He is the reason why the Grizzlies are in Memphis. So Thank You Michael Heisley.

2012-13 NBA ALL-STAR PICKS
Voting for the NBA All-Star game has begun. This year the center position has been abolished. Instead of voting for two forwards, two guard and a center, fans will vote for three front court players and two back court players. As someone who played center for all of my church school league career, I strongly disagree. Truth be told the NBA should have separate lists for each of the five position. But it is what it is. Another year, another set of picks. Here I go

David Stern is retiring.
Yesterday, NBA commissioner David Stern announced his retirement. It is the end of a era for the pro sports. David Stern's tenure as commissioner has seen the largest growth in NBA history. The NBA was the number three league far behind football & baseball when Stern took over. The NBA has added seven teams, formed the NBDL & helped found the WNBA. The NBA became the number 2 sport under Stern. Basketball became a global game & stars like Michael Jordan became international superstars. There is no doubt that the NBA is way better off now than they were before David Stern became commissioner.
To be fair there have been complaints, four lockouts, the dress code, zero tolerance & the draft lottery to name a few. I actually have demanded on this blog & on twitter that David Stern either resign or be fired. Stern toward the end of his time as NBA commissioner has become a bully. The fact is no matter who much Stern annoyed me Memphis got a NBA team during his tenure & for that I thank him.

Some thoughts
Here are some random thought about sports & wrestling.
- Jeff Hardy regained the TNA title tonight, why TNA why. Is keeping him really that important. It is not like WWE wants him, if they do let him go. He would screw it up anyway.
- Vince McMahon finally went off about WWE's bad rating, only to have a WWE star point the finger at him. I don't know who is the brave man who just destroyed his own career but THANKYOU, it had to be said. We wrestling fans hear the words, Vince likes him or Vince hates him too much when we ask why certain stars are being used or not used.
- NBA season is here. Can the Heat repeat? Are the Lakers ready to challenge? Can OKC learn how to win titles? Will D. Rose & D. Howard be 100% when they return? Finally what dumb move will the Grizzlies make this season?
- It is the last year of the Memphis Tigers being in CUSA. HURRRRRAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
- The Rams are getting better but I still don't like Fisher.
- The BCS is almost gone. Double HHHHUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!
- Devon in Aces & 8s, good idea TNA!
- I don't care what Marvel says, Cyclops was right.
- Also the whole Superman dating Wonder Woman thing is a bad idea DC.
- Yankees SIGH, I just don't know. Is this how it ends?
- Marc Gasol is better than Andrew Bynum.
- Finally it's time for me to prepare my NBA predictons.
- Is anybody besides a diehard NHL fan going to miss it, answer no!
- It is time for Cena to get the belt back.
- It is also good to have Paul Heyman back.
- The replacement refs were fine, the real question is. Why did the ESPN get so anti NFL during the lockout.
- The Big Dance should be 64 (with NIT) or 96 (no more NIT)
- Finally Memphis Football really needs to get better.

Two years in: The winners in my opinion
Two years ago today, I decided that the microblog known as twitter was not quite good enough when it came to getting my thoughts across. So I started this small blog & Two years later it remains. While its viewers stats are low it remains. Few people knows that it is even around, but it still remains. Now come a look back before we head into year 3. In this post we will look at the winners.

Note: To my fellow Laker fans, listen to the words spoken by Jerry West. He was talking about the fact the Pau was playing badly during the season AFTER being awesome in International competition.

Saturday is the 2 year anniversary of this blog. Because of that this is Youtube week. A week to honor the Youtube page. Why, because the Youtube page was the beginning of MemphisSportsFan. I started on April 30, 2010, five months before the twitter page and a little over two months before the twitter account started (July 8th same year aka Lebron's The Decision). I have made several videos which I will post this week. First up is Lionel are you down, a song by Chris Vernon about Memphis Grizziles coach Lionel Hollins enjoy.

Let it go Vancouver
Seems like 11 years ,5 winning seasons & trips to the playoffs, is not good enough. Maybe Vancouver should practice not rioing, while they are practing rapping. Just a thought.

What the Grizzlies need to do
Watching the Memphis Grizzlies can be annoying. That is why I am not a Grizz fan anymore. I like a lot of the players, Allen, Marc, & ZBO to name a few. They have the ability to win the title. Yet, they lost to the Clippers in the first round. Not blaming anyone or anything in particular cough bad coaching cough Rudy cough Conley changes need to be made. I have made suggests in the past, none have been followed. I will blog & watch as I am proven right. The Grizz need to replace Coach Lionel Hollins, trade Rudy Gay & Mike Conley. I doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon so here is the list.
